The Political Vindication of Radical Empiricism. With Application to the Global Systemic Crisis

Michel Weber, The Political Vindication of Radical Empiricism. With Application to the Global Systemic Crisis, Claremont, Ca., Process Century Press, 2016. (ISBN 978-1-940447-12-4) http://processcenturypress.com This philosophical essay is the product of the interplay of two streams of thought. One that seeks to revisit the foundations of James’s radical empiricism and to generalize it to politics; and one that endeavours to think the current global systemic crisis as the last burst of international capitalism. To explore a synergy of sorts between Whitehead and Marx is of special concern. In a nutshell, Marx’s ideal and pragmatism should be preserved, together with his twin concepts of class consciousness and class struggle. His concept of class needs however some new foundations while his materialism and determinism would be advantageously replaced by panexperientialism and creativity. The essay is structured as follows: first, a theoretical part that proposes a political vindication of radical empiricism; second, a practical part providing some application to the global systemic crisis; and third, a conclusion exploring the pragmatics of political change.
